Whether you’re running cord or cordless, over the ear or jamming ‘em in there, the music we listen to is an integral part of skiing. This year, the Knuckle team dives into what makes our eardrums vibrate and toes tap. Some sounds become iconic lullabies that stay with us for years, bringing back waves of nostalgia and memories of ski films from yesteryear.

Laura reflects on unforgettable ski film soundtracks and Ruedi retraces the wild journey of two guys from Valais who made waves in the reggae world all the way to Jamaica itself: Kya Bamba. However, music can also leave a bitter taste, for example, when growing up being subjected to the speakers of reggae fans in Nendaz, when all you love is old-school rock. Malo Jobin reflects on his reggae overdose, while Twig dives into the unavoidable comedown that is après-ski music.

We welcome Jenn Folkesson to the team, as Cute Café tells you what kind of person you are based on what you listen to. Maé takes you back to a legendary era of choreographed ski-show performances, courtesy of an interview with Stéphane Ciompi. Shannon paints an audiovisual portrait of the TBL sessions, and Remco introduces us to the new life of Hugo Burvall, who’s carving out a name for himself in the international music scene.

From genres to stories, from words to silence, music takes hold of Knuckle Issue 7, and this is one we’ve been waiting for. As you read, keep an eye out for QR Codes of accompanying audio on some pages. Tune in & enjoy!
